"The visual and verbal stories I have witnessed support my belief that safety, respect, and a holistic and collaborative approach are powerful ways to create change, growth and fulfillment."

Art therapy provides a safe, creative, therapeutic space where people can explore their inner and outer worlds. Art therapy can be helpful in the following areas:

  • Emotional expression
  • Emotion regulation
  • Self-awareness
  • Stress reduction
  • Mindfulness
  • Social connection

Specifically, Claire is experienced in the following:

  • Anxiety and depression
  • Alcohol and drug dependency
  • Autism spectrum
  • Children, young people and families
  • Eating issues
  • Grief and trauma
  • Parenting
  • Self-care and supervision for mental health professionals

Claire is an art therapist and mental health social worker who has had the privilege of working with children, young people, adults and families for over 35 years.

Art therapy can take many forms and Claire can help you find a form of art-making which works for you. Luckily, art therapy does not require clients to have any art skills. It can be fun, relaxing and surprisingly less anxiety-provoking than verbal therapy, once you get over the barrier of thinking ‘but I’m not an artist…’

Claire believes that regardless of our specific training as therapists, the relationship and trust we build with our clients is the key to long-lasting progress and growth. Art therapy is not for everyone, and Claire is also comfortable with a purely verbal approach, (i.e. talk therapy). Claire tailors her approach to meet individual needs, and regularly seeks feedback. As a ‘second generation’ Art Therapist (her dad was also an art therapist) and Mental Health Social Worker, Claire has worked with individuals and groups in hospitals in London and Brisbane, in community-based services, and in private practice.

Some of the approaches Claire uses in her practice include:

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Art Therapy
  • Attachment Theory and Neuropsychotherapy
  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
  • Family Therapy
  • Filial Therapy (working with parent and child together)
  • Mindfulness Based approaches
  • Narrative Therapy
  • Play Therapy

Claire looks forward to meeting you at Next Level Health.
